Bus and Coach Hire in Latvia
We have been running coaches in Latvia since 2014, and almost everything here radiates from Riga. The capital has the largest airport in the Baltic states, Riga International (RIX), and it sits in the middle of the corridor that links Vilnius to Tallinn, which is why a Latvian booking is so often one leg of a wider Baltic itinerary rather than a self-contained trip. The country is small enough that any point in it is reachable from Riga in a day: the Baltic coast at Jurmala is half an hour away, the ports of Ventspils and Liepaja are a few hours west, and Daugavpils sits in the southeast.
Roads in Latvia carry no tolls for coaches, so a quote here has nothing to add for motorways, and the main corridor north and south is a straightforward drive. The conditions are the part that needs planning. Winters are real: the law requires winter tyres from 1 December to 1 March, daylight is short, and the long exposed stretches between towns are where a driver who knows the roads earns their keep. We fit our vehicles accordingly and build honest timings into winter schedules rather than quoting summer running times.
The groups we carry across Latvia range from conference and corporate delegations in Riga to cruise passengers, incentive groups, wedding parties, school and university trips, and multi-day tours passing through on the Baltic capitals route. Whatever the size, one coordinator handles the booking from the first enquiry to the final drop-off, so there is a single point of contact rather than a call centre. The written quote sets out the driver, fuel, parking and driver hours in advance, with no extras added afterwards. The fleet is sized to the group, from a seven-seat Mercedes V-Class through Sprinter minibuses up to nineteen and Tourismo coaches for around sixty, so nobody pays for empty seats.
Latvia: the Baltic corridor, winter conditions and local charges
The road that matters most here runs north to south. Tallinn is roughly 310 km from Riga and Vilnius roughly 300 km, each about four hours, and both borders are internal Schengen crossings with nothing to stop for. That makes the three Baltic capitals a natural multi-day route, and Latvia the middle of it. Within the country, Sigulda and the Gauja valley lie about 50 km northeast of Riga, Rundale Palace about 75 km south, Cesis a little beyond Sigulda, and the west coast ports are a half-day out.
Two local details are worth pricing in from the start. Vehicles entering the seaside resort of Jurmala pay a daily fee, which we include in the quote rather than presenting on the day. And winter tyres are a legal requirement from 1 December to 1 March, not a recommendation, so a coach operating in Latvia through the cold months has to be equipped for it. Our fleet is, and our drivers are used to snow and ice on the long legs where the nearest town can be an hour away.
From Riga congresses to the Baltic coast and the touring season
Demand in Latvia peaks hard in summer. Cruise calls at Riga, Baltic capital tours, incentive groups and weddings all concentrate between late spring and early autumn, and that is when vehicles need booking furthest ahead. Winter is a different business: corporate and conference work in Riga, the Christmas market weeks in the Old Town, and the occasional tour that runs regardless of the season. Spring and autumn sit in between and are the easiest times to get exactly the vehicle you want.
Coach access around the country is generally simple, with wide approaches and space to wait, and there is no emissions zone to arrange anywhere in Latvia. The exception is the historic core of Riga, a limited-traffic quarter of narrow cobbled lanes where a full-size coach works the edges and the group walks in. Outside the capital the planning problem is distance rather than access: legs of an hour or more between towns, exposed in winter, which we allow for honestly in the schedule. Drivers speak English and know these roads in both seasons, whether the job is a congress shuttle in Riga or a multi-day run through all three Baltic states.

No tolls apply to your journey, so there is nothing to add to the quote for the roads themselves. Your price covers the driver, fuel and parking. The one local charge worth knowing about is the daily fee for vehicles entering Jurmala, which we include in the quote when the itinerary goes there.
Winter tyres are required by law from 1 December to 1 March and our vehicles are fitted for the season. We use drivers experienced with snow, ice and short daylight, and we build realistic timings into winter schedules rather than promising a summer running time in January.
Yes, and it is one of the most common things we do here. Riga to Tallinn is about 310 km and Riga to Vilnius about 300 km, roughly four hours each, and both are internal Schengen crossings so there are no border stops. We plan driver rest periods across the whole route so the schedule holds up under the EU driving-hours rules.
